School Admissions
If you are considering Oakley Cross as your child’s school we would very much welcome you for a visit and to have an opportunity to meet the head teacher and/or class teacher. Please arrange a mutually convenient visit time either by telephone or by calling at the school. The school’s admission limit for new starters into YR is currently at 26. If more applications are received than this number, the County Policy on admission is then adhered to i.e. medical reasons, sibling links and distance from school based on parental address.
All new admissions requests should be made via the school admissions section at County Hall in Durham and go through county’s admission procedures.
Any pupil who leaves this school to go to another school then the school follows the County procedures by informing the Admissions Section so that no child goes missing from education.
We are committed to meeting the needs of all children including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. We would ask parents to discuss the identified needs with the school prior to starting so that appropriate intervention and support can be planned and implemented. Advice from the LA or other agencies may be requested to ensure any the school can meet any needs appropriately.
Full details of the admission arrangements can be found in the Primary and Secondary Admissions brochure produced by Durham County Council.
Visit the Durham County Council website for information regarding the school admission process and primary school admissions. To appeal against an admission decision visit: School admissions-appeals.
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
Applying for a school place if your child has an Education, Health and Care Plan or a Statement of SEN
Children and young people with an Education, Health and Care Plan (or Statement of Special Education Needs) follow a different admission and transfer process for a new school. Please continue to complete Durham County Council’s parental preference form, as part of the admission process to a new school. You continue to have a right to request a particular school and this will be considered alongside the information that we have about your child’s special educational needs. The information would have been provided as part of the Education, Health and Care assessment or following the review meeting.
If you would like to discuss your SEND requirements in detail, please contact the school to arrange an appointment.
Nursery Admissions
Should you require a nursery place for your child, please do not hesitate to contact the school. You can arrange to visit Mrs. Chapman our Early Years Leader to have a look at our setting and ask any questions you may have.
Nursery admissions are made directly to our school and not through the Local Authority.
We will provide nursery education for children from the age of 2 years. Parents must meet eligibility criteria to access one of these places for free. We also offer additional paid sessions on request and subject to space in nursery. For more information contact the school.
